Under den senare delen av hans liv b\u00f6rjade han brevv\u00e4xla med den brittiska professorn G.A Hardy. Han var likt Euler oerh\u00f6rt produktiv och arbetade inom flera matematiska f\u00e4lt. Flera matematiska samband och principer \u00e4r uppkallade efter Gauss. Vad de s\u00e4ger \u00e4r att inom varje logiskt system som bygger p\u00e5 axiom (antaganden) som till exempel v\u00e5r matematik kommer det finnas satser som \u00e4r sanna men inte bevisbara. Det finnas allts\u00e5 matematiska sanningar som vi inte kan bevisa inom v\u00e5r struktur f\u00f6r matematiken. Han skrev en av matematikens viktigaste b\u00f6cker: Euklides Elementa. Den l\u00e4gger ut de grundl\u00e4ggande talteoretiska och geometriska axiomen som matematiken sedan byggts upp p\u00e5.
